Do you see what I see?

The entire history of art is nothing more than a bunch of digital images passing more or less rapidly in front of your eyes. Images that mark the development of human aesthetic existence rendered inert through the most basic of computer technology. 

Must we insist on shitting all over the things we hold dear? Head on over to Google Art Project and decide for yourself.     

The animated GIF contains all 411 images in Ernst Gombrich’s The Story of Art. The original 600 PPI scans were ordered chronologically then reduced to 72 PPI and shrunk to 5% of their original size. The GIF was then saved at the lowest quality possible which resulted in a 2 mb file which is roughly the size of one of the original scans.

Best viewed in Firefox which apparently handles GIF’s better than Chrome, IE or Safari.
